Environmental social governance (ESG) risks have been a hot topic in the boardroom for a while. Many private and non-profit boards are now seeking to develop tangible ESG strategies and objectives that have a green and sustainable focus.  By joining our upcoming workshop you will:

Presenters:

Stephanie Bertels – Director, SFU Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability – leads the Embedding Project (www.embeddingproject.org), a global public benefit research collaborative that develops practical tools that help companies do their part to support environmental and social resilience. She is the Director of the Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability and the VanDusen Professor of Sustainability at Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business. Stephanie regularly supports executives and boards as they embed sustainability into their operations and decision-making.

Kerry Gibson – Partnerships Manager, SFU N-EAT –  is the President of EcoCentury Technologies, an engineering and consulting firm promoting clean technologies. She is also the VP of Strategic Partnerships for ZiphyCare, and co-founder and Partnerships Manager for N-EAT (Nutrition through Engagement and Agricultural Technologies) under SFU’s Faculty of Sustainability. Kerry serves on the Board of Directors of many Foundations and Organizations, along with serving on the Diversity Advisory Committee for the Joint Task Force of the Canadian Armed Forces, is an Honorary Governor of the Vancouver Foundation, and serves on the board of Rose Academies under ECOSOC.  She currently is focused on several collaborations that address the SDG’s both locally and globally using innovative solutions applying a business lens to causation.

Kerry speaks on platforms internationally including the UN and the House  of Commons, addressing economic development, clean tech innovation, diversity and inclusion, and labour rights, and has represented the private sector’s role in civil society at the UN. She has been named UN Women Planet 5050 Champion, a Global Goodwill Ambassador, and has received a Times of Canada award for Excellence in Innovation, a Shakti Award, and the Honor Award by the Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organization.

Dhalie Patara – Project Manager, SFU N-EAT & Synergy Executive & Boards – is a project manager with over 20 years of experience. She has worked on local and global projects that are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Her areas of speciality are technology, finance and capacity building through public and private partnerships. She has served on several boards including the George Derby Centre, Whole Human Foundation and SCWIST. She is also a proud SheEO Activator.

Trish Mandewo – CEO, Synergy Executive & Boards Consulting Group – An accomplished award-winning serial entrepreneur and diversity & inclusion strategist Trish Mandewo is President and Founder of Synergy On Boards Consulting Group. She is an advocate for social change through various initiatives that champion and empower outsider groups. Through her love of governance, she co-founded Synergy on Boards Consulting Group to help Black, Indigenous and other visible minority women be board ready and help bridge the gap of diversified voices in the boardroom.Trish has successfully built four businesses and two non profits. She has received numerous awards including 2017 RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant. She currently sits on several boards including Union of BC municipalities (UBCM) and Lower Mainland Local Government Association (LMLGA) and The Coquitlam Foundation. She has an extensive history on executive boards and committees.

She is an elected official for the City of Coquitlam. Trish believes that knowledge is valuable when shared with others. She is happiest when empowering and accelerating others to reach their potential.
