Organization Type: Non-ProfitAbout your organization:

The Orange Shirt Society (OSS) is a non-profit organization based in Williams Lake, BC, created to raise awareness of the inter-generational impacts of Indian Residential Schools. Since its formation in 2015, OSS has been dedicated to supporting reconciliation and promoting the truth that EVERY CHILD MATTERS. OSS is based on the unceded traditional lands of the T’exelcemc (Williams Lake First Nation), part of the Secwepemc Nation.

Board Specifications:

OSS is currently recruiting five volunteer board members for two to three-year terms, starting in November 2024. Positions are open to individuals across Canada:

  • Two positions from British Columbia
  • One from Eastern Canada (NL, PEI, NS, NB, QC, ON)
  • One from Central/Northern Canada (MB, SK, AB, YT, NWT, NU)

We welcome applications from individuals with diverse lived experiences and encourage those from marginalized communities, including First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and other underrepresented groups, to apply.

Governance Model:
The Board follows a results-based model and, while the Board is not anticipated or obligated to make operational decisions, it is poised to uphold OSS’s mandate by actively participating in committees and undertaking specific governance oversight functions.

Compensation and Commitment:
Board members are not compensated but will be reimbursed for reasonable expenses related to board duties. There are at least four annual board meetings, and members will play a vital role in guiding OSS through its growth and strategic direction.
