ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE

Established in 1936, the ORL serves over 425,000 people across an area covering 59,600 square kilometers through 30 branches. Membership is free to people within the library regions, providing access to the 16th largest library in Canada.

Recent and new projects include the new West Kelowna Library Branch; the Maker Space, Revelstoke Library; recent updates to the Mission Library, and the relocation of the Oliver Library.

This role is located in the heart of the Okanagan Region, Kelowna, British Columbia. Situated on the shores of Okanagan Lake, it’s a place where the climate is mild, and sunshine abounds. It is the largest city in the region, graced with spectacular mountain scenery, large pristine lakes, sandy beaches and orchard and vineyard-laden hillsides.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Board of Directors (the Board), the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for providing vision and leadership to the Library system. The CEO is responsible for the planning, organizing, and oversight of all facets of its operations to effectively meet the needs of its members for library services within the strategy, policy, and financial framework established by the Board and the requirements of the Library Act. The CEO is committed to advancing services and an organizational culture that is collaborative, innovative, and designed to build inclusive partnerships across the ORL’s communities.

The position requires an inclusive, collaborative, and strategic leader who understands the role of public libraries in building resilient, inclusive, and engaged communities today and into the future. The ideal candidate will have relevant education and training with a minimum ten (10) years’ experience in a senior management position, including experience in team leadership, financial management, program and service delivery, and community engagement. Demonstrated knowledge of board governance with experience working with a public sector and/or non-profit board is an asset. A combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered.

The position requires the ability to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Police Check. The preferred candidate must have a valid driver’s license for the Province of British Columbia (with their own vehicle) and a valid passport.
