The Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s provincial office operates on the traditional and unceded territories of the šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmaɁɬ təməxʷ (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh). The Alzheimer Society of B.C. provides services across the traditional, unceded territories of Indigenous peoples around the province.
There are approximately 85,000 British Columbians living with dementia, and this number is growing. For every person living with dementia, there are many more people affected, including family, friends, co-workers and other members of their communities. The Alzheimer Society of B.C. strives to change the conversation about dementia, the experience of people affected by dementia, and the future for people affected by dementia. The Alzheimer Society of B.C. envisions a world without Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and that world begins with a society where people affected by dementia are welcomed, supported and included.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director of Engagement, the Manager, Advocacy works in a hybrid environment to provide leadership for the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s government relations and public policy initiatives, to achieve meaningful systemic change and empower people to be confident self-advocates. This position will drive the organization’s advocacy strategies, build strong partnerships with government, and ensure that the voices of people with lived experience of dementia are heard. Additionally, the Manager, Advocacy has an integral role in influencing public policy, raising awareness, and aligning advocacy efforts with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.

The incumbent is required to balance the execution of key deliverables with the ongoing development and capacity-building of the team, ensuring that they are equipped to deliver impactful results. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in a related field such as Political Science, Gerontology, Sociology, or Public Health combined with a minimum of six (6) years of experience in a related capacity and discipline, preferably in a not-for-profit environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The salary for this position is $83,000 - $95,000 and includes access to a wide range of employee benefits including a flexible hybrid work environment, generous paid time off, and comprehensive employee health benefits. Flexibility with scheduling is expected; this role requires the ability to travel occasionally, along with some evening and weekend work.
