Campus Security Services is a department within the Vice President, Finance and Operations portfolio that provides security, campus safety, personal safety, emergency planning, parking, and motor pool programs and services to the campus community at the University of Victoria. In providing these services Campus Security contributes to creating an inclusive, safe, secure, and welcoming campus for all and to the overall mission of the University by providing exceptional customer service in all aspects of the operation. These critical services are provided 24/7/365.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the leader of the Campus Security Services team, the Director, Campus Security is responsible for both community and personal safety across campus as well as, security, emergency management, parking, commuter services, and the motor pool programs and services. This includes plans, strategies, policy and procedures, and resources designed to enhance the safety and security of all members of the University community on campus and to contribute to the strategic direction of the University. The Director sets the strategic direction, tone, and culture for all services within the Department.

The ideal candidate will be trained and educated in criminology or related public safety discipline, and ten (10) years plus of directly related management experience in public safety administration and/or safety and security leadership experience in a post-secondary education and/or community policing environment. The candidate will have expertise in security, personal safety, and emergency management grounded in a commitment to equity, diversity, cultural safety, and inclusion. This role requires superior interpersonal communication skills with a leadership style that fosters an inclusive team environment and champions collaboration across the University community. A combination of education and lived experience that demonstrates a candidate’s skills, capacity and the knowledge required to be successful in the role, will also be considered and welcomed.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license and BC Security Worker’s license.
